Happy New Year!

We find ourselves with another year under our belts & looking back, as far as gaming has gone, its been a good year.

We completed a Frostgrave Campaign & after providing the group with a list of games to vote on that we could play in 2019, the winner was again Frostgrave! Rangers of Shadow Deep taking a close second. So to keep the second place happy, I will try to run a couple games at our Saturday Games Days.

As usual I didn't get as many things painted as I would have liked, but life has a way of throwing obstacles to be overcome. Of course this allows me plenty of room to try to improve that side of things.

So for my final figures painted for 2018, here are 3 more of the Z War One figures that I started during Zomtober....yes its been that busy!

Here we have Victor the shotgun wielding cop, flanked by 2 more of the infected.

Seems Victor may need some touching up as the overspray seems a bit milky. Though the actual figure doesn't look this bad in real life.

As I begin my painting for 2019, I am working on my next Frostgrave Wizard & Apprentice...so look for those to grace the blog soon!

Again I hope everyone has a Happy New Year & that good fortune lay before you!

Merry Christmas!

As we gather around our hearths with friends & family at this time of year, I wish to extend my wishes for a Merry Christmas to those of you on the blog-o-sphere as well!

Of course this morning saw the unwrapping of presents! Santa was good to me once again this year, gifting me the items below.

This Star Wars book will be added to my collection which I use as painting guides & perhaps one day a Cosplay of something Star Wars.

I also received a couple more Malifaux figures!

As well, though not placed under the tree, 2 Fat Mats were given. Both are 4'x6'

Now the remainder of the day will be relaxing with my lovely wife & our pets as the smells of turkey roasting, sage, stuffing & rutabaga come from the kitchen until its time to dine!

I haven't had much hobby 'painting time' it seems, however I did get a couple items to continue with a project I started earlier this year in regards to making Insect Plague markers for Frostgrave.

As Michael's was having a 70% sale on Christmas related stuff, I did get 3 more Lexar Cobblestone Sheets for a fantastic price! However I also wandered down the jewelry beads isle...wondering if by chance there were some insect related beads.

Though I had hoped for some wasp/bee bits, I did come across these...they were in a string with spacer beads, however I clipped the string & will regift those spacers to a friend who does crafts.

Those who recall remember my pipe cleaner made token to represent the swarm. So I undid it & added these 'insects'.

I wanted them to be loose enough to fit over the many varied figures people use for Frostgrave, so the pipe cleaners will do fine as I bend them to suit.

So after a day spent hitting the stores for Boxing Day sales tomorrow, I hope to get some time at the paint table again & will add some paint to the insects so they don't look like treasure!

So once again Merry Christmas everyone!

Take off to The Other Side!

So with the parcel backlog finally getting sorted with Canada Post, & after seeing Jarrett receive his The Other Side kickstarter, I was getting anxious with Christmas soon to arrive.

We arrived home to find 3 parcels waiting at the Post Office, which is nicely staying open late a couple nights a week until Christmas!

So getting home & wolfing down my supper, I rushed downstairs to open the boxes.

I went for the Titan option on the Kickstarter, netting me the 4 factions which comprise the system. Not sure if they will add more down the road, though I don't see why they couldn't

The 4 Factions are King's Empire, Abyssinia, Gibbering Hordes & Cult of the Burning Man.

Each consisted of a Starter (Allegiance) Box, a Large (Titan), a Unit box & some specialist/commander boxes.

As if that wasn't enough, I also received my print on demand copy of Rangers of Shadow Deep!

Certainly provides me lots of interesting things to add to my Christmas break optons!

Frostgrave - The House of Longreach

This past Sunday we played our final scenario of our current campaign. This was game 18.

We had 3 warbands take the field (a couple of folks had to cancel as it is that busy time of year)

We played the House of Longreach, so I could utilise some of the terrain pieces I got from the Frostgrave Terrain Kickstarter that was run by Tim Hollier.

I did modify the scenario to only have 4 portals on the main board, with the last inside the vault. When players entered one & were transported to another of the portals on the main board, we rolled a d6 to determine both which door & which side of the door they emerged on.

So the 3 warbands in play were

Ludwig (Chen)

Eben (Me)

Bob (Scott)

So without further preamble, here is the story!

So after the game, we tallied up the spoils & experience to determine the winner of our campaign.

Chen - 365xp, 400gc, Ring of Life (Campaign Total 6665xp)

Scott - 1140xp, 100gc, Gloves of Casting, Vial of Starlight, Grimoire - Enchant Armour (Campaign Total 9440xp)

Terry - 670xp, 40gc, Magic Spectacles, Fire Heart Gemstone (Campaign Total 9290xp)

Therefore congratulations to Scott! who was the winner of our campaign.

So some afterthoughts of the campaign.

The game runs similar to Mordheim in that you only want to play a limited number of scenarios, otherwise the wizards get so powerful, where casting spells is pretty much matter-of fact.

We like having creatures spawn each turn, as it prevents some players from hiding at the fringes of the board....they now risk getting swarmed!

Also for my next campaign in the new year we will be increasing the odds of a creature spawn on treasure pickup. It will get more likely as more are grabbed.

We do have soldiers garner xp for killing things, this leads to a higher amount of xp per game, but is counterbalanced by the fact you can only improve/lower a casting cost by 1 per game. So we don't see this as an issue.

Thanks for all of you who participated & I look forward to beginning a new campaign in 2019!

Also thanks to all of those who visit the blog to enjoy our adventures!
